Superior Court Arraignment Date Set For Aaron Hernandez

CBS Boston

ATTLEBORO, Mass. (CBS/AP) — The Superior Court arraignment of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been scheduled.

The Bristol district attorney’s office announced Tuesday that Hernandez is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 6 in Fall River Superior Court. He was indicted last Thursday.

Hernandez has previously pleaded not guilty in district court to murder in connection with the death of Odin Lloyd, who was found fatally shot June 17 near Hernandez’s Massachusetts home.

Prosecutors say Hernandez orchestrated Lloyd’s killing because he was upset at him for talking to people Hernandez had problems with.

Hernandez’s lawyers say they are confident their client will be exonerated.

Hernandez is being held without bail at a county jail.

The hearing is scheduled for the same day as current Patriot Alfonzo Dennard’s hearing over an alleged probation violation. Dennard was arrested on suspicion of OUI in July.

Poll: Young Chinese Use ‘Daddies’ to Get Ahead

China Daily Mail

To get ahead in China, you need the right daddy.

So says a recent online survey showing that nearly 84% of respondents believe the young people around them would prefer to play a game of pin die rather than work hard.

Meaning something like “powerful daddy,” the phrase refers to competing on the basis of family background. By that, they mean in terms of jobs – more than 80% said they believe many young people have relied on pin die to get ahead at work.

The survey was conducted by the Social Survey Center of the China Youth Daily, a state-run newspaper, and web portal Sohu.com.

The report said that among the 3,809 respondents, only about 10% of them said they value hard work in becoming successful. When they were asked what occurred to them first when they ran into problems, about 36% said they regretted that…

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating a shooting that happened near Meyer and Askew in Kansas City, Mo. Tuesday afternoon.

Police tell FOX 4 that a 19-year-old was shot multiple times and is in critical condition. Two other people in their mid 20s were hit by flying glass.

“”More than one shooter. We might have had someone from one side, from the victim’s side actually shooting back at the suspects,” said Darin Snapp, KCMO Police Dept. Public Information Officer.

A patrol officer heard the gunfire and rushed to the scene on Kansas City’s eastside.

Police say the 19-year-old was getting into or out of his Ford Escape when a Sliver Dodge Charger pulled up and someone inside of it started shooting.

Then, someone returned fire at the Dodge Charger, and it sped away.

Cowboys CB Claiborne Still Out With Knee Injury

CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — When Morris Claiborne jammed his left knee during Dallas Cowboys training camp, the cornerback said he would be back the next day.

That was two weeks ago, and Claiborne still hasn’t returned to practice.

“If he does anything, it will be towards the end of the week. I don’t anticipate a lot of action for him this week of practice or this weekend,” said Garrett on Tuesday.

Claiborne has already missed the first three preseason games. There two more tuneup games before the Sept. 8 season opener. The Cowboys will play Cincinnati on Saturday night.

“You never want to rush a player back so you’re jeopardizing him in any way. He’s doing his rehab well and making progress,” said Garrett. “When he’s ready we’ll get him out there practicing and hopefully playing in a ballgame.”
